Taking candids

I feel like out in public using a phone to get candids is becoming more noticeable I feel like. Do any of you do something specific to make it not seem like you’re taking videos. I usually just hold my phone in one hand by my side and covering most the phone with my hand except for the camera. I’ll occasionally look at it to make it seem like I’m reading something. So I wanted to see if any of you have found better ways of being discreet or different ways to film altogether.

See for me, when I was most active back in my college days, I tend to set my phone's brightness to the lowest setting, make sure to have the adaptive brightness turned down when I do it. Sometimes placing my phone between my thighs, the side of my legs, or pretending I'm texting or playing a game. Nowadays, when I film and take photos of close friend's, I do the same but since I'm more comfortable, I also tend to keep a conversation going as well and act natural to prevent any suspension.
